Diversity United believes in the power of people united to actively shape our serene, sustainable collective present and future on our Earth, in our societies. Recognizing our common essence and our interconnectivity as human beings beyond our socio-cultural diversities is a necessary condition to bring social change.
Empowering communities through participatory & artistic processes for a better inclusive world
Our projects aim to foster social inclusion, empower vulnerable communities and engage citizens, united despite their differences, to take action for social change.
Our focus is divided in two interrelated strategies.
First, empower the racially, culturally, socially, gender and age wise unprivileged, diverse “outsiders”, through participatory art projects, to integrate the main body of society.
Second, raise awareness within society itself, with various interdisciplinary media and artistic approaches, to ensure they are respected and equally accepted.
By promoting intercultural dialogue and understanding, using various artistic expressions, we facilitate the integration of our empowered communities of ethnic minorities, refugees and immigrants. We especially encourage women and youth participation independently of their origin and background. We safeguard and disseminate the traditional indigenous people’s intangible cultural heritage and empower them as communities to take the actions they decide. We highlight their unique sustainable bond with nature as profound teachings for our modern societies.
How we do it
Through culture and art, we aspire to awaken our collective consciousness to the identity that unites us as a global human community. Taking it a step further, we give a voice to the unprivileged and let them decide for their future.
We strive for community engagement and community capacity building through participatory projects that use art (video, art, dance, music, poetry, physical theater) as vehicles of emotional intelligence that allow participants to heal, to express, to connect. We empower individuals and communities to reach out to the world with their artistic outcomes, to share their stories and points of views. Using communication and social innovation strategies, we develop interactive cross-media projects that bring together vulnerable communities with the rest of society, promoting solidarity and social activism. We organize cultural events that foster social inclusion, by allowing exchanges between socially or culturally diverse people through various platforms and artistic expressions.
What we do
From refugees and immigrants in Europe, to very remote indigenous communities in the amazonian forest, in the jungles and seas of SouthEast Asia, in impoverished slums of Africa and Latin America, we are passionate about letting them rediscover their power, safeguard their valuable traditional wisdom and culture, in an alienating globalizing world. We are engaged in bringing those valuable experiences, voices, stories, artistic expressions out of those marginalized communities, to the rest of our societies, to bridge gaps of prejudice and show the ways for a common solidal future, where we learn from each other and grow together.
We are a multicultural, multidisciplinary team of filmmakers, ethno-psychologists, visual anthropologists, artists, physical theater performers, choreographers, musicians, cultural mediators / interpreters, social innovators, design thinkers, IT developers & designers, all engaged in social & environmental matters. Our main team has over a decade experience with approaching and empowering the most vulnerable communities, living with them for long periods, gaining their trust and building strong bonds.
